What is Reflexology ?
Reflexology is a unique method of using the thumb and fingers to stimulate over
7,200 nerve endings in each FOOT. These nerve endings correspond to
different body parts, organ systems, and glands. Some reflexologists also
work on the hands and ears. Many believe that stimulation of the
appropriate region is eliminates energy blockages thought to produce pain or
disease in the related area.
Reflexology is generally used to prevent, rather than cure, and is used to
relieve a wide variety of ailments. Reflexology has its origins back to
ancient China, over 5,000 years ago. There also appears to be
evidence of its use in ancient Egypt in 2330 B.C.
Many persons, who have never had their feet worked on may feel awkward or
worry about being ticklish. However, most "first-timers" find it
to be a tremendously enjoyable and soothing experience. They often look
forward to having it done each time, from that point on !! The reflexology
practitioner will adjust her touch to what is comfortable for you.
Sometimes a little more pressure alleviates any ticklish feeling. Relaxation
helps too, and the practitioner will have several techniques for relaxation at
her disposal, including soft music, nature sounds, and other methods.
